Gabbara monumental crib

The Municipality of San Cataldo, with the collaboration with the Gabara Association 22 and the Quarta Parete Association, is organizing a new itinerary to rediscover our roots that sink into the mining culture of sulfur extraction, and re-tie, between alleys and baroque churches, the threads of our history. It is a monumental crib with an area of ​​about 2,000 square meters and represents its own village. It consists of buildings with a supporting structure made of chestnut stakes and reinforced plaster walls, stone dry-stone walls, two wells and a monumental entrance door made of wooden stone wall crosspieces. The crib is embellished by a stream of water thirty meters long with a suggestive path of water jumps and some characteristic elements such as the "straula", a very rudimentary and primitive means of transport, which was the oldest form of wagon in Sicily. The nativity scene is articulated on three levels, which can be visited through an internal loop path that allows the visitor to enter the huts and come into close contact with the shepherds, the numerous decorations and water features, and be able to admire every scene and landscape. take pictures of this work, unique in Sicily. The presence of farm animals (chickens, geese, rabbits etc.) coming from local farms is also an attraction for children. The crib is located in San Cataldo, district Torre / Pirato, about one km. and a half from Piazza Calvario and can be easily reached by pointing the navigator on the following coordinates: latitude 37 ° 29'25.48 "longitude 13 ° 57'33.31". The work is an original proposal by Presepe that through the guided tour of craft and artistic works with a Christmas theme proposes a new dimension of San Cataldo to visit on Christmas days and in those preceding it. The nativity scene shows all the visitors and mainly the children the whole narrative from the nativity and at the same time maintains and spreads some of the most beautiful traditions of our territory and lets them know the whimsy and inventiveness of the Sancataldesi.
